Questionable LNAB and Parents

This identification was apparently made originally by Virkus. Serious new study is needed.
Cheryl Sendtko says at http://siedelmann.org/Ancestry/Gaines/Entries/1685/5/18_Richard_Gaines.html
Sutherd did not identify the wife of Richard Gaines in his research; however, there are researchers who claim that he was married twice - first to Dorothy Kelley and then to Catherine Madison (born 1693 in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia; died about 1760 in Culpeper County, Virginia). Some others think he was married only once and this was to Catherine (surname unknown); yet others contend that his wife was named Catherine Rawlins/Rawlings.
While I certainly don't pretend to be a genealogy expert, in looking at the dates of birth of his children the indications are that he was, in fact, married twice. In the 1700s, it is highly unlikely that there would have been a 10-year gap between the births of children as there is in the case of Roger born 1714 and John born 1724, unless a wife died and the man remarried and started another family. For that reason I am showing him with two unknown wives. It is possible, of course, that there were children who were born and died during this span of time.
Opinions as to changing LNAB to Unknown are needed. Or solid evidence that Richard Gaines's wife was Catherine Madison.

I do see "Catherine Madison" in many places as the wife of Richard Gaines and the daughter of John Madison and Isabella Minor Todd. That being said, I have never seen a piece of paper or even a reference to a document that verifies that Richard Gaines' wife was a Madison or that her parents were John and Isabella. Am I missing something? The quote from Ms. Sendtko above is the sort of comment that I love to see in that it discusses the research. It would be cool to be related to the Madison family, but what I really want is accurate information, whether it leads to kings or horse thieves. Is Ms. Sendko's assessment the best we have? I can live with that but would love to know if there is solid information out there that she did not have access to. Thanks cousins.
