Zayn Malik is best known as a previous member of the british boy band One Direction.
Born on January 12th, 1993 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, Zayn is the son of Yaser Malik, a British Pakistani, and Tricia (Brannan) Malik. He is the second of their 4 children, and their only son.
He attended Lower Fields Primary School and Tong High School. During his teenage years Malik took performing arts classes and appeared in school productions.
At the age of 17, Malik attended the Manchester audition for the television competition The X Factor. He was eliminated before the final round but grouped with four other contestants to form a new act, One Direction.
The group did not win the competition, finishing in third place. They were soon signed by Simon Cowell under his Syco Records label.
Zayn's departure from One Direction was announced in March 2015. He plans to release his first solo album, also with Syco Records, in 2016.
