Research Notes

Goochland County, Colony of Virginia appears to be a much more likely birth location than Stokes county, Province of North Carolina and furthermore Franklin County is within what used to be Goochland. Foster-86

In 1786 Personal Tax List, the following Marcum are found:

Is his 1792 death in Red Bird, Owsley, Kentucky really his or from another Thomas Marcum? Note that Owsley was not created until 1843.

Daughter might be Elizabeth Markham.

Note: Owsley County, Kentucky, was formed in 1843 from portions of Breathitt, Clay, and Estill Counties. Therefore the death or locations of any Marcum or Banks family would have to be in one of the original counties. Barney Banks

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Markham-7185 and Marcum-73 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same person. There is some discrepancy between birth/death dates/locations, which can be mentioned in the notes after merging. They are married to the same person, Jane Clay. (Jane Clay-643 Marcum and Jane Clay-3100 Markham need to be merged also). Markham-7185 shows Josiah Silas Marcum as the son. Josiah is my 5G grandfather. 2C1R Bob Keene also shares Josiah as an ancestor. Marcum-73 shows children Elizabeth Frances, Barnett, Thomas, Jr, and John. I share DNA with cousins in each of those branches.
Marcum-706 and Marcum-73 do not represent the same person because: Un-Conflating.

There is a source for Agnes as the mother, but Mary Walton is unsourced (family search tree), and that unsourced tree has William Markham as father. I say detach Mary Walton and do the merge.
