The will of John L. Marshall of Carroll County, Ohio was written on 4 December 1874 and probated on 25 June 1875.[8] The will mentions John's sons: Thomas (and wife Lydia Ann Marshall), Moses, Joseph, Samuel, Harvey, John, and Charles, and daughters: Lydia McNally, Fanny Butcher, and Maria Burgett.
The will also mentions the following real estate:
35 acres in Section 3, Township 13, Range 4, which John was living on
160 acres in Section 2, Township 13, Range 4
280 acres in Vernon County, Wisconsin
John L. Marshall died on 21 June 1875 at age 93, and he was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Salineville, Columbiana County, Ohio.[9]
He served in a Pennsylvania regiment in the War of 1812. He was a farmer until 1875.
