John (Maxwell) Maxwell Xth of Maxwell and VIIIth of Caerlaverock is a member of Clan Maxwell.

John Maxwell was the 8th Lord of Caerlaverock.[1] He was born about 1310, the son of John Maxwell & Christian Carlile.

Family

John was married to Christian Erskine, the daughter of William Erskine & his wife Beatrix Stewart.

Children of John Maxwell & Christian Erskine. One child is well sourced;

  1. Robert Maxwell[1][2]
  2. Agnes.[2] John Maxwell of the Mearns, with consent of his son and heir Robert, gave lands to John de Pollok, heir of Robert de Pollok, and son of Agnes Maxwell, deceased, his daughter.[3]

Two other children have no sources originating with the Maxwells.

  1. Elizabeth Maxwell - married to Hugh de Gillesland.
  2. John Maxwell

Research note

Scots Peerage[2] does not give a relationship for this John, only that he was Herbert's successor.

This John de Maxwell b. 1315 married Isabel de Lindsay, b 1338. He then married Elizabeth St Michael but had no childre to her.

To Isabel Lindsay, daughter of Sir James Lindsay, 8th Lord of Crawford, they had a numbger of children.

Maureen, the sources for his wife being named Christian are given in the profile above. What reliable sources do you have for a wife named Isabel?

Maxwell-4891 and Maxwell-169 appear to represent the same person because: This is four generations of the same Maxwells in 2 separate trees. Have reasonably sourced the smaller numbered one.
