Biography

Robert (Maxwell) Sixth Lord Maxwell is a member of Clan Maxwell.

Robert Maxwell, 5th Lord Maxwell was born circa 1510. He was the son of Robert Maxwell, 4th Lord Maxwell and Janet Douglas.^[1]

He held the office of Warden of the Western Marches in 1542. He succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Maxwell [S., 1445] on 9 July 1546.2 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1551.

He married Lady Beatrix Douglas,^[2] daughter of James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Morton and Catherine Stewart, after 25 July 1530. They had issue, including:

1. Robert, 6th Lord Maxwell3 b. bt 1549 - 1551, d. fr 21 Dec 1553 - 26 Jan 1554/55^[2]
2. John, 7th Lord Maxwell+4 b. 24 Apr 1553, d. 6 Dec 1593^[2]

Robert died on 14 September 1552.
