Biography

WILLIAM McCRAW was named in his father's will in Powhatan County, Virginia. In 1785, he is listed with his mother, as a tithable in Powhatan County. This means that he would have been born around 1764.

On 14 May 1788, he married Winifred Hill in Chesterfield, VA.

On 6 Jan 1801, he married Mary Daniel Clement in Powhatan, VA.

On 15 Apr 1832, he married Nancy Rives Talbot in Charlotte, VA.

Children:

  1. Francis FRANK M. (Miller?) McCraw
  2. James McCraw
  3. Hill McCraw
  4. Mary Polly McCraw

His will has not been located and it is suspected that it was recorded in the General Court of Richmond, which was burned 4 April 1865. There are no suits found against William's estate so he must have left an iron cast will. If any suits were filed, they would usually have appeared first in the county court and then referred to General Court. There may be other children who have not been identified. In 1839, William was not on the tax rolls and must have died the prior year. His widow is on the tax list for another year and then died.
