Biography

Martha was born in April 1819 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.^[1] She is the daughter of Charles McLaughlin and Alice Madding. She died in childbirth in October 1854 in Halifax County, Virginia.

Martha married Stephen J Farmer on 20 June 1840 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Martha's father, Charles McLaughlin, gave consent.^[2] After Martha's death in 1854, the children went to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Rachel (McLaughlin) and James Madison Davis. All of the children moved to Mississippi in 1872.

By 1850 the family had moved to Halifax County, Virginia. In Stephen's household on the 1850 census are:^[1]
