Discussion

Was this spouse really Pierre Lejuene? No sources on his profile confirm this person. The Stephen White Dictionare says he was married to a Doucet (no first name). The source "A Closer Look" barely references Pierre, except to say that he came from France and does not have any Native American blood, and does not discuss a possible Indian wife. The source DNA study in the last paragraph says that Germain Doucet must have had two wives (one Indian) and then the daughter of that indian wife would have been the wife of Pierre (my interpretation of the connections). If that's true and the daughter of Germain with an Indian mother is the Doucet the Pierre married, she would not have been Marguerite Membertou, daughter of Henry. Since Pierre :Lejeune is said to have been born in 1595 in France, it is even more unlikely he married an Indian woman 25 years older than he in 1623 and she would have been 60 when she started having children. ("Pierre LeJeune removed as spouse until confirmation can be made (Bourque-573 00:52, 13 August 2019 (UTC))).

Biography

Marguerite (Mikmaq) Membertou was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Mi'kmaq Nation.

Marguerite was born in 1585. [citation needed] If her oldest brother was born before 1550, and her mother was born about 1532, then if she were the last child of that mother, she could have been born as late as 1572 (making the mother about 40 when giving birth). Could it have been later, possibly, but not too likely. There is no evidence for a 1598, 1585, or other birth year as of yet.

Marguerite was the child of Grand Chief Henri Membertou Sachem. She was baptised in Port Royal in June 24, 1610, although her age was not given. Her brother Louis was over sixty years old. The baptism record gives the birth order of the sons, but does not say where she fit in that order. It does imply she is the only daughter by saying "the daughter".[1]
The daughter of Henry, sieur de Poutrin court godfather, was named Marguerite, after Queen Marguerite.

Marguerite passed away in 1658. [citation needed]

Married Pierre Lejeune (uncertain of place and date). [citation needed]

PM's do you have any EVIDENCE/original sources (not family trees or suppositions) that prove she was a spouse of Pierre LeJeune? It appears extremely unlikely that she was. That spousal relationship will be removed if we have no proof (we can keep the thought on the profile in the Discussion section in case something surfaces in the future.

Hello Darrel, Maurie and Rene,

Stopped in to clean-up and update this profile a bit. This whole family line needs a lot of work and sources.

There is one scenario that could explain everyone’s point of view of where and who were Edeme, Pierre II and Catherine Lejeune. I have the theory that the U6 haplogroup defiantly came from overseas but at an earlier period than the traditional colonization of Acadia. The earlier colonization occurred when the fabled Knights Templars under Henry Sinclair started a colony in this area in 1398. A number of settlers stayed when Henry Sinclair returned to Europe and over the years assimilated into the Mi’kmaq thus creating the many haplotype lineages identified in the mothers of Acadia DNA project. U6, X2B being two in my family tree that were part of the Mi’kmaq gene pool when the new wave of colonist came to Acadia. It only takes a quick search to discover the theories and evidence. Also the Mi’kmaq Nation and Knight Templar flag are almost identical.

Unsure whether Marguerite-Louise is her sister, or the same person.
