Research Notes

A relative of Sir William de Milborne (d. after 1376), the husband of Margery de Wynton as both were Milbornes of Somersetshire by descent. (Source: Transactions of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society. Vol. III. London, J.B. Nichols and Sons. [5]). One of Sir William's descendants, Sir Thomas de Milborne (will was proved in 1492), was the husband of Katherine St. Leger. (Source: Milbourn, Thomas. "The Milbournes of Essex and the King's Otter Hounds, 1385-1439." Transactions of the Essex Archaeological Society, Vol. V. [6]). According to "The Early History of the Church of Kingston-upon-Thames" by Alfred Charles Heales, Sir Thomas was the son of Simon de Milborne and had at least two children, Cecily and Henry. Henry was the father of Richard Milbourne; Richard had no sons: "...but failing male issue this branch of the Milbourne family became extinct, and the landed estates of the family became extinct, and the landed estates of the family passed into the family of Fawkenor, of Westbury, co. Southampton ; William Fawkenor, of Westbury, having proved his descent from Elizabeth, daughter of Simon Milbourne, the father of Sir Thomas Milbourne." [7]

I removed William as a son of John Milbourne, Esq. and Elizabeth Devereux. This relationship isn't sourced, and doesn't seem likely-for instance, in addition to lack of sourcing, the arms described for William Milbourne (see "The Visitations of Northamptonshire" by William Harvey, edited by Walter Metcalfe) don't match those of John Milborne (as described in Douglas Richardson's Magna Carta Ancestry. [8]).

Is there a source naming his parents? I've only seen sources, such as the "Transactions of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society" indicating he had the same coat of arms as the Milborne family of Somersetshire.
