Land of Good Water by Clara Stearns Scarbrough: John Miller petitioned to form the western portion of Milam County on Feb. 2, 1848 to form "Clear Water." This eventually becomes Williamson County. (No initial with the John Miller)

Another source says John Benton Miller was born in Kentucky, not Pennsylvania. His dates are correct, though.

John Benton Miller served in the War of 1812. Mustered out in October 1813.
In 1824 they lived in Fulton County, Illinois, where J. B. Miller saw service in the Blackhawk War.
In 1833 when they lived in Washington County, Arkansas, J. B. Miller served in the Seminole Wars.
In 1847 the family moved to Texas, Bastrop, Williamson County.
In 1867 the older folk and children returned to Washington County, AR, where Tempie and Sallie had married and stayed while the rest of the family went to Texas.

Private in the Company commanded by Captain Franklin Ball in the Militia Regiment of Illinois Troops Commanded by Colonel - Beaurgard ( Beaugard** <sic>) in the Black Hawk War in the year of 1830 or 1831 that I Enlisted at Fulton County State of Illinois on or about the years 1830 or 1831 for the term of 3 three months - and was Discharged at a place called McComb in McDonah County State of Illinois.

We were Stationed at a place called Yellow Banks on the Mississippi River. I also Enlisted and Served one tour or Campaign prior to this time also in the Same War in 1831 it was called the Black Hawk War and continued in actual Service in Said War for fourteen days -, that He has heretofore made application for Bounty Land under the act of September 28, 1880 (looks like 1850 to me?) or under the act approved March 3rd 1855. I have forgotten which, but this application was for services as a Soldier in the ____ War with Great Brittain in 1812 . I was also a Soldier of 1812 in Company - Commanded by Captain Hargroves Indiana Indiania <sic> Militia. I received a Land Warrant for my Services in the War of 1812 for 160. But have Received none for my Services in the Black Hawk War in 1831 - he makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Additional Bounty land to which I may be entitled under the act Approved the 3rd day of March 1855, he also declares that he has never applied for or received under this act or any other act of Congress - any Bounty land Warrant except the one above mentioned attest. his/s/ John X Miller mark
