"The name then recurs generation after generation in this distinguished family. Essex Rich married another wealthy Essex landowner, Sir Thomas Cheeke of Pirgo; her daughter Essex married Edward Montagu, Earl of Manchester, and before her death in 1658, bore him eight children. Her tombstone records that "seven of them shee nursed with her owne breasts".
One of her daughters was called Essex; in 1661, when she was about 17, Essex Montagu was married to Henry Ingram of Temple Newsam in Yorkshire. Her daughter, Essex Ingram, married Richard Burns in 1687."[3]
