The following information is from research done by Robert Edwin Moore of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Very near the end of the eighteenth century, in the period 1790 - 1800, five brothers, one sister and their respective families made plans to emigrate from their homes in Ireland to a new life in the United States. Other than their names, facts about their Irish lives are sparse. These siblings were George, James M., Alexander, Noble, John, and Isabelle Moore. John and Isabelle were half-siblings of the other four. The names of their parents are not known. Neither are the dates or order of their birth known, except that it is thought that Isabelle and John were born to their father's second wife. One tiny clue, on an American Civil War pension application, indicates that they may have lived in Dublin, Ireland. It is not known exactly when or how they came to the United States, whether they came separately or in groups, but five of the six did make the journey, probably between 1795 and 1800. All five were residents of Tennessee in the early 1800s. This is known from court records in Roane County, Tennessee. The sixth brother, Noble, died before he could come, but his six small children, and his wife, did make it to Tennessee.

Research done by Charlene Sparks:

This is my line of wild people:

Uncle George Moore helped some others come to TN from Ireland well before the famine in Ireland. During the late 1700s there was a lot of political unrest in Ireland and that was about the time our Irish Moore line came to the USA. They may have spelled the name differently in Ireland but in the USA they spelled it MOORE.

A. George Moore, born about 1757 or 1758 Ireland, never married, purchased land in Knox/Roane Co., TN, USA about 1795 and he came to this Country sometimes before that. He died June 18, 1842 in Roane Co., TN. He left a large estate, no will and MANY Nephews, Nieces and one living brother, James Moore (d. Feb. 1846) and one living half brother, John Moore, who died 1843-1846 in Lincoln Co., TN. All the large group of Moore's were pretty certain dear old Uncle George INTENDED to leave them a pretty good chunk of the estate. They may have been disappointed but the genealogists who would follow many years later blessed him for the many Court papers explaining relationships.

B. My ancestor, Noble Moore was full brother to George Moore but I have no idea of when or where he was born or died, some believe he died in Dublin, some believe he was a shopkeeper there. Noble's children give us some idea of Noble Moore, we know the probable dates of birth of SOME of them. It could be that Noble may have been born about 1760-1770 and we know he died after 1797 but before 1813. A descendent of the youngest girl, Isabella Moore Eldridge gives her Mother's name as Isabella Alexander but I have no proof of that, I am using it as a "maybe." The Court papers referred to her as Isabella, widow of Noble Moore and said she came to this country with her children. It appears that Isabella Moore and her boys ran a Ferry Business in Roane Co., TN. Children of Noble & Isabella Moore: B1. George Moore dob? born Ireland, could not sort him from other George Moore's in Roane Co., TN. He could be oldest, youngest or anywhere in between.

B2. William Moore b. 1786-1790 Ireland married Unity Tucker Oct 28, 1813 Roane Co., TN but moved to McMinn Co., TN when it opened up to settlers, or maybe a little before. Unity Tucker Moore died bet. 1850 - 1855 McMinn Co., TN. In 1855 Elizabeth Eaton sued old William Moore for breach of promise wanting a "hold" put on his property in case he sold everything and followed one or two of his sons to another state. It appears he won the case. He died July 24, 1862, McMinn Co., TN, leaving an estate with several slaves, one, Rose, he allowed to choose which of his children she wanted to live with.

B3. Hugh A. Moore was my own ancestor and I never located him on a Census to get an exact date of birth. He behaved as a younger brother (my idea of a younger brother) and William behaved as an older brother. I would guess Hugh A. Moore may have been born about 1790 in Ireland I am not positive of much of anything about this wild Irish young man. He was a 2nd Lt in Capt. William Whites Co., Col John Browns Regt, E. TN Vol., Mounted Infantry Discharged Jan 1814. I am not sure where he was before he joined the service or where he was right after he got out? Maybe he was helping with the Moore Ferry Service?

There was a Court Case June 16, 1816, Roane Co., TN, where Hugh A. Moore was ordered to sell a slave, Adam, to pay a debt to James Moore after James Moore hauled him to Court saying Adam was payable property and should be sold to pay James Moore. I do not know which James Moore it was, there were at least 3 separate Moore families in Roane Co., TN.

I never found where Adam was sold or whether James Moore was paid?

Oct. 1818 Roan Co. TN. Hugh A. Moore charged with being father of Polly Tuckers child. Bond William Moore. Hugh A. Moore admitted being father of the child and promised to support it. The child must have been my ancestor, Charlotte Moore born 1818 TN.

July 13, 1819 White Co., TN at the home of George Tucker Hugh A. Moore married the blushing bride, Mary "Polly" Tucker.

They appear to have moved to MS right after the marriage. Their children are as follows: B3a. Charlotte Moore b. 1818 TN m. Henry Goodman 1838 (my line) B3b. William Moore b. @ 1819-1820 (never could locate him to find out anything) B3c. George W. Moore b. January 21, 1821 MS m. Minerva Jane Goodman (sis of Henry) B3d. Hugh R. L. Moore b. 1829 MS m. Mary Conerd

I never located the family in MS during the time Hugh A. Moore was alive, he was robbed, killed and thrown overboard a boat returning from New Orleans where he had sold his crop. The Captain informed the family when they docked at WHEREVER they lived. The year of death was verified on the Military Land Grant that Mary "Polly" Tucker Moore claimed in the name of Hugh A. Moore, Nov. 1, 1850.

There was a Polly Moore with children the correct ages & sexes on the 1830 Census, Warren Co., MS 1830, this Polly was the correct age to be our Mary "Polly" Tucker Moore. But she made her way back to TN where she lived until the children were grown. Then she and all her grown, married children (except William Moore) moved to Van Buren Co. AR by 1860.

B4. Jane Moore b. about 1795 Ireland married John Tucker July 09, 1816, Roane Co., TN and they were in Wright Co., MO 1850. They had at least 1 son, John Tucker Jr. probably had more children, they had a daughter with them Jane Tucker b. @1826 TN & Elizabeth b. @1832 TN. I have never located descendants of this family.

B5. Isabella Moore b. @1797 Ireland, married Jesse aka John Westley Eldridge September 03, 1829, Roane Co., TN but I am not certain of her children.

C. Alexander Moore, full brother of George, Noble, & James. I never saw Alexander Moore on a Census that I know about and I have no idea of who he was married to. I assume he came to the USA from Ireland about the time George did. I know he had two children I know about: C1 Joseph Moore (I do not know what became of him for certain).

C2 Jane Moore b. @1800 (I do not know if she was born Ireland or USA). Jane Moore married Daniel Shields and she was dead before 1842. She had children: C2a. Ellen Eleanor Shields July 21, 1822 TN C2b, George Shields C2c Jane Shields C2d. Mary Shields

D. James Moore b. @1770 Ireland d. Feb. 1946 Roane Co., TN He appears to have been married at least twice and both wives named Jane, the first appears to have been married to him in Ireland about 1792. children of 1st Jane: D1. Jane Moore b. @1793 Ireland D2. George Moore called Jr. b. @1794 Ireland D3. John Moore b. @1796 Ireland D4. Henry Moore b. @1802 Roane Co., TN D5. Margery Moore b. @1803 Roane Co. TN m. James Wells D6. Elizabeth Moore b. @1805 Roane Co., TN m. John Dever children of 2nd wife Jane: D7. James H. Moore Abt. 1824 Roane Co., TN D8. Catherine Moore Abt. 1825 Roane Co., TN D9. Hannah Moore @1827 Roane Co., TN D10. Henderson Moore April 28, 1828 Roane Co., TN D11. Hugh Moore about 1830 Roane Co., TN

I could be wrong about some of these children?

Noble, James, George & Alexander also had a half brother and half sister. The old Court records indicate that Uncle George Moore, the bachelor either returned for or sent for Nobles widow & children AND George's half brother & half sister who had been left in Ireland also.

E. John Henry Moore b. @1770-1780 Ireland m. Elizabeth Harmon February 1808, Jefferson Co., TN and they settled in Lincoln Co., TN where he is said to have served as Justice of Peace for a time. children: E1. George W. R. Moore E2. Lewis H. Moore b. @ 1819 TN E3. Jane Moore E4. John H. Moore b. @1822 E5. Joseph H. Moore E6. Jacob Washington Moore b. December 02, 1824 E7. Maryann C. Moore E8. Margaret J. Moore b. @1832

Again I could be mistaken.

F. Isabella Moore b. @1771-1780 Ireland m. James Findley b. @1772 Ireland Children: F1. Margaret aka Peggy Findley m. Robert Morris F2. George Findley b. 1804 m. Minerva Jane Spence F3. Jane Findley b. @1810 m. James H. Moore they moved to MO F4. Elizabeth Findley m. Samuel Hotchkiss F5. John Findley m. . Gabrilla Hotchkiss F6. James Madison Findley m. Lucinda Simmons F7. William Findley m. Mary Ann Alexander F8. Mary aka Polly A. Findley b. @1824 m. John Spence F9. Louisa Ann Findley b. @1820 TN m. William Davis Moore moved to MO I could be mistaken about some of children

Is my line your long lost relatives that you have searched for to finish up your line back to the dark ages? Or is THIS the dark ages? I have been stuck at the same brick wall for years now.

Thanks for taking the time to read this long, long reply to your query.
