Biography

Margaret was the daughter of John de Mowbray by his wife Elizabeth de Segrave.[1][2][3] Her birth year is not known, but her mother was born in 1338, father was born in 1340, her parents married in 1349, her father went abroad in 13467 and died the following year in Thrace, and her mother predeceased him: it has been estimated as about 1360. Her parents had interests in several counties, and her birth location is uncertain, though her brother John was born at Epworth, Lincolnshire.[4][5]

Margaret married Reginald Lucy. The licence for their marriage was dated 1 July 1469, and was for marriage at the chapel of Bretby Castle, Derbyshire.[2][3][6] so they probably married in July that year. They had at least two children:

On 19 November 1393 Margaret's father-in-law was given a licence to enfeoff her and her husband with the manor of Newenten (Newenden), Kent,[7] so she was alive then.

Margaret died before 11 July 1401.[2][3]

Research Notes

1563-4 Yorkshire Visitation

The Harleian Society edition of the 1563-4 Yorkshire Visitation has an Ogle pedigree which wrongly names Margaret's husband as Sir Thomas Lucy.[1]
