Biography

The name of the wife (or wives) of Attacullaculla was never recorded. Only three historical records mention a wife and none of them name her. In 1758, Attacullaculla requested that South Carolina Governor Lyttleton send him a cloak for his wife; in 1766, she is mentioned in a letter. In 1774, his wife accompanied him on a visit to the Moravian community at Bethabara in Salem, North Carolina where the couple listened to an organ in a church. Attakullakulla was already familiar with the instrument, but his wife insisted on seeing the workings as she feared a person was captive inside it.[1]
