Born on the 6th of May, 1752, William Murray was the son of James Murray and Anne Bolling . He married his 1st cousin once removed, Rebecca Bolling, who like himself was a descendant of Pocahontas.
William Murray inherited "Athol Brae" and was called the Duke of Athol. He lived at Grove Brook in Amelia County and later at Woodstock in Powhatan County, Virginia.
