Born in Albany County, New York, in a part of which later became Tryon County. (Tryon County was renamed Montgomery County after the Revolutionary War.)
Johann (John) stayed behind to marry Maria since her family was staying in New York. He was hoping to stay until he could persuade her to move to Canada. Together with his brother Peter (who did not want to go to Canada) they hoped to look after the farm until things got better.
John and Maria had two sons, John (b. around 1782) and Henry J (b. 1784) both born in Montgomery NY. Both died in Canada.
He was granted land in the Grand Valley of Upper Canada along with his father & brothers as part of the Nelles Tract as early as 1787, but he apparently didn't leave New York for Canada til around 1800.
Buried in the Murray Private Cemetery in Middlesex, Ontario.[1]
