Note

Note:
  • Between 1769 and 1771, a John O'Bannon appears in the Fauquier Co., VA. Minute Book 1769-1771 at least fourteen times. It may be either John (b. 1710), John (b 1734-1741) or John (b. 1749) Which of these John O'Bannon's is referenced in these records needs additional investigation.
Note: [flager.ged]
  • The location of John's birth is believed to be in Virginia. Some sources suggest that it was near Salem, in Fauquier Co., Virginia. Whether of not it was in Westmoreland, Richmond, Stafford or Fauquier county is yet open to verification. Some have suggested incorrectly that it was in Frederick County, Virginia. John was a farmer in the vincinity of Pignut Ridge located in Fauquier County, Virginia. From his fathers will of 1760, he inherited 212 acres of alnd, a pistol, an unbroken horse and a Negro named Indy (her increase 'to be totallyexempt from outdoor labor'). Public records indicate that he already owned 189 acres of land which he purchased in 1742, lying on the south side of Pignut Ridge. He is also known to have been a member of the first Vestry of Leeds Parish. (Ref: Fauquier Co., VA. Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 2, N. Baird, C. Jordan, J. Scherer, p. 154).
  • John Gott's information (letter: 22 April 1992, has some doubt about John's year of birth as 1710). The location of the cemetery where John's grave (possibly with a stone - dating his birth as 1710 per Paul O'Bannon ltr: 18 January 2002, but essentially unmarked) is believed to be located is on the north face of Pignut Ridge near the New York Kennel Club and just south of O'Bannon Lane.
