Sylvanus Oakes was born on March 30, 1749 in Westborough, Worcester County Massachusetts, son of George Oaks (~1720–1777) and Lydia Eager (1723–1758).
Sylvanus (22) married Abigail Ball (19) (born on May 18, 1752 in Hopkinton, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony; daughter of John Ball and Margaret (Hemenway) Ball) on November 25, 1771 in Rutland Massachusetts. Their children were:
- Lydia Oaks (1774–1852)
- John Oakes (1776–1850)
- Silas Oakes (1787–1856)
- George Oakes (1790–1857)
- Levi Oakes (1793–1891)
- Margaret Oaks (1797–1850)
Sylvanus died in 1800 in Vermont, United States, aged 50.[1]
