Biography

Thankful Olmstead, eldest child of Capt. Jabez Olmste(a)d and Thankful Barnes, was born in Brookfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony on 15 February 1713.

Her family moved to Ware, Hampshire County where she married Timothy Brown, who was also from Ware. They had seven children:

  1. Anna T., b. 1730; m. Ephraim Andrews
  2. Mabel, b. 1733; Thomas Applin
  3. Ephraim, b. 1734-35
  4. Silence, b. 1737; m. Joseph Holmes
  5. Ruth, b. 1739, d. aft. 1761
  6. Timothy, b. 1742
  7. Thankful, b. 1743, d. infant

Thankful died, likely from complications of her last child, who named for her, who also did not survive. When her husband remarried shortly thereafter, the first child of that marriage was also named Thankful.

Research Notes

The original 1912 Olmsted Genealogy listed Thankful and Deacon Brown's seven children. It also mistakenly gave them three children (Jabez, Aaron, and Jedediah) that were her brother Jeremiah's children. [1]
