Biography

1776 Project
Private Jonathan Olmsted served with 19th Regiment, Connecticut Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Jonathan Olmsted is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A086295.

Jonathan was born in 1740, the second son of Jonathan Olmsted and Hannah Meakins.

He married Sabra Stanley and they have seven children:[1]

  1. George, b. 1869. d. 1840; m. Hannah Roberts.
  2. Temperance, b. 1774, d. 1776.
  3. Sabra, bpt. 1777, d. 1858; m. Joseph Green
  4. Jonathan, bpt. 1779, d. c. 1813
  5. Caleb Stanley, b. 1782, d. 1856; m. Content Hall.
  6. Hannah, b. 1784, d. 1860; m. Joseph Carpenter.
  7. Edward, b. c.1787, d. 1813; m. Sarah Webster.

By 1798 the family was in Leyden, Franklin County, Mass. Some of his children moved west, going to Ontario and Chautauqua counties, New York, Marietta, Ohio, and eventually further West.

Jonathan passed away in 1826 and is buried beside his wife in the West Leyden Cemetery, Franklin County, Massachusetts.[2]

His family name is spelled without the "a" (Olmsted); some of his children did change to Olmstead (with the "a").
