Biography

The baptism of Henderickus, child of Hendrick Oosteroom and Marytje Davids, was recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of Fishkill, New York, on 1 July 1741. Witnesses were Tunis Van Vliet and Sara Van Wagenen. [1][2]

The marriage of Henricus Ostrom, y.m., to Phoebe Pinckney, y.d., was recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of New Hackensack (Dutchess County), New York, on 11 June 1772. The couple had registered their banns on 23 or 25 May 1772. The handwritten transcription of the record by the Holland Society of New York identifies Henricus as of Rumbout (Dutchess County, New York) and Phoebe of Westchester, apparently residing in Poughkeepsie.[3] The transcription published by the Dutchess County Historical Society names "Henricus Oostrum" as "of Rumbouts Prect., res. in Hakkensak" and Phoebe Pinckney as "of Westchester County, res. in Poghkeepsie Prect."[4]

The baptism of Johannes, son of Henrik Oostrum and Phoebe Pudney, was recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of Hopewell, New York, on 6 November 1774. The child was born 17 October 1774. Witnesses to the baptism were Jan Oostrum and wife.[5]

Ostrom-123 and Oosteroom-36 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Last name at birth Oosteroom per baptism.

I think this is consistent with what I suggested on the past, but I'm on the road right now and can't review stuff yet....

I am finding myself unconvinced. Earlier (see https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/375639/hendrick-oosteroom-various-spellings-1730s-1740s ) I thought it very likely that this son of Hendrick O. and Mary* Davids baptized in 1741 (currently represented by Oosteroom-36) was the man who married Phoebe Pinckney (currently represented by Ostrom-123), but I continue to have doubts, largely because there is no affirmative evidence for this, and the names of the children of that couple and the children's baptism witnesses don't fit the usual patterns for this traditionally Dutch population. Also, the suggestion of a second wife for Henricus named Elisabeth Flegelaar, with two children (at least), makes me wonder if there were even more Hendrick/Henricus/etc. Ostroms than we have been dealing with.

What's the content at that link?

I don't remember. I must have posted it when Fold3 had free access. So much for links vs. citations.

Shucks.

Being on Fold3, it's likely to be military-related. Maybe we can find a Fold3 subscriber who can document the source.

NARA. Case Files of Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Applications Based on Revolutionary War Service, compiled ca. 1800 - ca. 1912, documenting the period ca. 1775 - ca. 1900. Publication Number: M804. National archives catalog id: 300022. Record Group: 15. Pension application W19942.

Elizabeth Ostrander, widow of Thomas. Daughter of Joshua Smith. Married at her father's house in Fishkill, 11 Nov 1783. Husband died 1 Sep 1816. Rev. Blauvelt, DRC, no record of marriage could be located. She applied in Albany County to receive his pension after Congress authorized a widow's pension. She was 78. Son James and her brother also made a statement. Packet includes a couple pages from a family bible and typed transcription of the application that was compiled at a later date.

Hmm... That looks like altogether different people. Thomas Ostrander seems to be Thomas Ostrander (bef.1745-1816) and his widow Elizabeth is Elizabeth (Smith) Ostrander (abt.1761-).

Ostrom-90 and Oosteroom-36 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, same baptism. LNAB should be Oosteroom. See Oosteroom-36 for the baptism record.

I think Ostrom-123 is the same person, but there's no proof (and there are several men of the same name to contend with). See the G2G discussion.

With a first marriage in 1772, it seems likely that the man who married Phoebe Pinckney was born later than 1741.

I am swapping out the parents for this man. As discussed at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/375639/hendrick-oosteroom-various-spellings-1730s-1740s?show=378852#a378852 I don't believe that the man who married Phoebe Pudney was the son of Jan Osterom and Blandina Relje. He might be the son of Hendrick Osteroom and Marytje Davids who was baptized in Fishkill in July 1741, so I'm going to connect him to those parents, at least for now.

Ostrom-204 and Ostrom-123 are not ready to be merged because: They may be the same person, but the different wives suggest that there may be some conflation of different people. There have been many odd errors in this family's genealogy
