JOSIAH OSGOOD,[1] baptized at Lancaster, 12 Oct 1740[2] son of David Osgood and Eunice Carter; d. at Verona, NY, 17 Aug 1830;[3] m. at Lancaster, 9 Dec 1760,[4] JANE BOYNTON (or Byington), b. at Lancaster, 22 Mar 1741/2[5] and baptized 18 Apr 1742 daughter of Zaccheus and Anna (Ross) Boynton; Jane d. at Wendell, 23 Oct 1822.
Josiah and Jane were first in Lancaster where the births of the oldest five children are recorded. On 14 January 1768, Josiah Osgood of Lancaster, in consideration of £200, conveyed to David Osgood all rights to both the real and personal estates of honored father David Osgood. On 24 June 1768, Josiah Osgood of Lancaster, in consideration of £150, sold to David Osgood of Lancaster a parcel of 150 acres in Lancaster.[6]
The family was afterwards in Wendell. Josiah built his home in Wendell on the corner of Wendell Depot and Farley Roads. Jane died in Wendell and after her death Josiah went to Verona, New York where some of his children settled.[7]
On 24 December 1799, Josiah Osgood of Wendell sold two acres to David Osgood for payment on one dollar. On 25 April 1807, Josiah sold half of his homestead farm in Wendell to Luther Osgood for payment of $800. On 14 April 1812, Josiah sold the other half of the farm to Luther for $800.[8]
Josiah served as lieutenant in Capt. Ebenezer Goodale’s company in of Minute Men in Col. Woolbridge’s regiment that marched at the alarm on 19 April 1775 with service of 26 days. He served six weeks in 1779 as second lieutenant in the company of Capt. Samuel Merriman.[9] He was captain in the militia after the war and served with Commonwealth forces during Shay’s rebellion.[10]
Josiah Osgood and Jane Boynton were parents of thirteen children.[11]

Eunice m. 2nd 1810, as the second of his four wives, SAMUEL PUFFER, b. at Sudbury, 28 May 1770 son of Samuel and Olive (Rice) Puffer;[14] Samuel d. at Sunderland, 1 May 1845. Samuel was first married to Betsey Moore, third married to Mrs. Hannah Stone, and fourth married to Rhoda C. Baker.
