Biography

Deborah was born 18 September 1726 at Hurley (Ulster County), New York,[1] and baptized 25 September 1726 in the Reformed Dutch Church in Kingston (Ulster County), New York.[2] The record of her baptism gives her name as Debora and identifies her parents as Hendrik Oostrander and Elisabeth Wamboom. Witnesses were Pieter Wamboom and Debora Wamboom.[3]

She married Frederick Fort on 4 November 1750 in the Reformed Dutch Church, Kingston, Ulster County, New York. [4]

Two children are recorded from the marriage to Frederick Fort:[1][5]

  1. Elizabeth, born 3 April 1753 (according to Ostrander, A Genealogical Record; source not identified); baptized in the Albany church on 15 April 1753;[6] Her birthdate is calculated to be 7 February 1753 from the age given in the inscription on her gravestone. She married Jacob Kimmey.
  2. Annatje, baptized 12 October 1755 in the Kingston church.

Frederick Fort died in 1756,[5] and on 6 May 1758, Deborah married Petrus Burhans as her second husband. Children born to this marriage were:[1][7]

  1. David, baptized 3 June 1759
  2. Henricus, baptized 10 May 1761
  3. Deborah, born 2 October 1763
  4. Annatje, baptized 13 April 1767
  5. Lena.

According to Ostrander, A Genealogical Record, Deborah Burhans died after 1789.[1]

Is there a better way to demonstrate that Deborah had more than 1 husband? This formatting makes it look like she changed her name like a crazy person and that Fort was a birth name.
