Unsorted Notes
A descendant provided the following notes on his research into the "true birthplace of Captain Thomas Palmer" (thanks Gary!):
came to the Virginia colonies around 1623. [listed as aboard Tyger, Nov 1621],[10] in 1624/5 Muster as arriving November 1621 aboard the Tyger.[11]
my research indicates that Esquire Edward (Edwarde?) Palmer and his wife Muriel (Merial) are the parents of Thomas. Gloucestershire, England appears to be the general Palmer family residence location over many generations.
Captain Thomas Palmer's records indicate that he was born in 1590 in Rowley, East Riding, Yorkshire.
"I am trying to ascertain How?/Why? he was born in Yorkshire if the family primarily resided in the Gloucestershire region. It is a long-distance between the two locations in that era, would have been a difficult journey.
"I contacted local genealogy persons in East Riding, Yorkshire, but they have not been able to confirm that Thomas Palmer was born in Yorkshire around 1590. I and they think Yorkshire is not the correct location for his birthplace (despite multiple ancestry links indicating that Yorkshire is his birthplace).
"There were 2 Thomas Palmer's in Yorkshire around the same time, but neither appears to be the one I am researching.
"I found one possible clue, indicating that Thomas was baptized in Gloucester, St John the Baptist (Randwick?). The church still exists. I sent the current Vicar a request for any assistance in verifying this baptism, but have had no response."

On Feb. 11, 2017, in response to this G2G discussion, dates/places in the datafields this profile were edited to better match the biography and attached profiles. They had been:
born 1508, Parham, Sussex, England
died 24 Apr 1585, Parham, Sussex, England
Sources for those dates/locations had not been added.

"The first Palmer of record in Virginia can quite accurately be said to be Thomas Palmer who came over from England in the ship "Tiger" in 1623 with his wife Joane and daughter Priscilla, age 11 years old. On Feb. 16, 1623 these three are given as residing in Virginia at Jordan's Journey which is probably just below City Point.
This Thomas was a member of Burgesses of the Colony which assembled at Jamestown Oct. 16, 1629 and he represented Shirley Hundred Main. He was also a member again on March 24 1629/30 from Hundred Main.[12] He was commander of a company of Shirley Hundred men and was called Captain. He was a Justice appointed in March 1631/32 for the monthly courts for the upper parts of the counties of Charles City and Henrico. Jane and Priscilla appear in Charles City County in 1637 as head rights under John Baker as patentee. Whether Thomas had died by 1637 we do not know, nor do we know whether he had other children.
Edward Palmer of York Co. is, without doubt, the one who came in the ship "Friendship" in 1629. Probably he was quite young at this time, about twenty, and could have been the son of Thomas above, but there is nothing to indicate this relationship. Edward is found in York Co. VA on a coroner's Jury in March 1660 and on June 4, 1658 he was granted 499 acres at Pascataway Neck for transporting eight persons.
Info from a merge: The following information from a merged profile needs to be sourced/incorporated into bio or deleted:
Born about 1584 in Yorkshire East Riding, England and died about 1633.
Fact: "Came to America from England on Ship 'Tiger/Tifre' - 1621 with wife Joan and daughter, Priscilla, who was 7 years old (11 years old)".
Fact: The ship Tyger brought Capt Thomas Palmer to Virginia (November 1621)
Thomas Palmer came to Virginia from England in the ship "Tiger" in 1621 with his wife Joane and daughter Priscilla, age 11. On February 16, 1623, these three are given as residing in Virginia at "Jordan's Journey," which is probably just below City Point. [They are listed in the Muster of 1624/5 on January 21, 1624 as residing at Jordan's Jorney and Chaplain Choice, arriving on the ship Tyger November 1621.] This Thomas was a member of the House of Burgesses of the Colony which assembled at Jamestown Oct. 16, 1629, and he represented Shirley Hundred Main. He was also a member again on Mar. 24 1629/30 from Shirley Hundred Main. He commanded a company of Shirley Hundred men and was called Captain. He was a Justice appointed in Mar. 1631./2 for the monthly courts for the upper parts of the counties of Charles City and Henrico. Jane and Priscilla appear in Charles City County in 1637 as head rights under John Baker as patentee. Whether Thomas had died by 1637 we do not know, nor do we know whether he had any other children. He could have had others, but none appear of record.

The death date and location should probably be changed to 29 Dec 1629 in England. See what historian Martha W. McCartney had to say ("Virginia Immigrants" in Photo Column) and will of Thomas Palmer, probated in England.

Hello! If the lineage is correct, Capt. Thomas Palmer is my dad's great - x11 - grandfather. If my father does a DNA test, would it show a connection (regardless of minute percentage)? My email is [email address removed] Thank you in advance for your response!!

Please correct and add sources. See
Biography looks like the man immigrated to Jamestown. Even has a couple of references from there. Profile is for an older person.
Joan is also impossible on the dates.
But it looks like this Thomas was originally born 1590 and then got confused or bad-merged with an earlier Thomas.
