Will of Joseph Parker - 1749, probated 1750 .............. In the Name of God, Amen. I, Joseph Parker Senr. of the Province of NC, county of Chowan, being sick & weak in body but of sound & perfect memory - thanks be to God for the same - & calling to mind the mortality & frailty of man & that it is appointed to all men once to die,....Do I therefore hereby constitute/appoint/ordain this to be my last Will & Testiment for manner & form following ..............................FIRST- I commend my soul to the hands of the Almighty God that gave it & my body to be buried in such Christianlike manner as the Executors herein named shall deem meet, & as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bestow on me in this transitory world, I dispose of the same in manner & form following ........................................ ITEM--I give & bequeath to my eldest daughter, MARY CANNON, 150 acres of land known by the name of the Jugen Landing........(etc.)................................. ITEM -- I give & bequeath to my daughter, RUTH PARKER, the cows & calfs(sic) & 1 feather bed/a bolster & sheet & blanket delivered at her mother's death or her own marriage .............................................................. ITEM -- I give & bequeath to my eldest son, NATHAN PARKER, the plantation (can't read the rest of the words -it's in a crease of the paper).................................. ITEM -- I give & bequeath to my son, JOSEPH PARKER, 100 acres of land by Running Cross the head of the lake wherreon he now liveth, & 1 small gun & shoemakers tools to be delivered to him at the age of 20 or his marriage, also a sow & pigs to be delivered to him at age of 16 ........................................................................ ITEM -- I give & bequeath to my son, JACOB PARKER, 100 acres of land beginning upon the river & going up to Jurgen Landing, 50 acres of land lying for bear swamp, & coopers tools, & also 1 sow & pigs to be delivered to him at age of 16 ............................................................................................................................ ITEM -- I give & bequeath to my daughter, PENINA PARKER, 2 cows & calfs(sic) to be delivered to her at age of 16 or marriage .............................................. ITEM -- I give & bequeath to my son, JOBE PARKER, the manor plantation whereon I now live containing 120 acres, if he dies w/o heirs it is to fall to Jacob Parker, his brother................................................................................................................................................................................................................. ITEM -- it is my will that my beloved wife, Ruth Parker, shall have my horse called Diamond & the side-saddle at her disposal, all the remaining stock/cattle/sheep/hogs/a horse & household goods until her death or marriage, & then for my daughter, PENINA to have 50 shillings VA currency, then the rest to be equally divided between my wife & my youngest children, namely:RUTH, NATHAN, JOSEPH, PENINA, JACOB, & JOB....................................................................................... Custody of Penina Parker

KNOW ALL MEN by these Presents that we - Ruth Farmer, Joseph Parker, Jeremiah Cannon - all of the aforesaid Province (NC) & County (Chowan) do stand bound in the full sum of 100 lbs by which payment well & truly made we bind ourselves/heirs/executors firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals & dated this 2nd day of November 1762 .........The Condition of this OBligation is such that the above bounden Ruth Farmer was appointed (on day & year aforesaid) by the Justices of the aforesaid Court TO BE the GUARDIAN of PANINA PARKER - Orphan of Joseph Parker late of the County aforesaid Dec'd, & by order of the said Court is AUTHORIZED/IMPOWERED to take into his(sic) hand & possession all the estate of the said Orphan, wheresoever in this County to be found. .....(more about Justices held blameless, property to be given Orphan upon lawful demand, Guardian to render a just & true account of execution of office of Guardian for said Orphan (her own child, mind you), SIGNED/SEALED/DELIVERED in the presence of RF (mark/initials of Ruth Farmer), Joseph Farmer, Jeremiah Cannon
