Joseph was born in 1746. He was the son of Samuel Parsons and Mary Jones. He served as a captain in Col. Thomas Tash's regiment during the Revolutionary War.[1]
He was representative to the General Court for 20 years (being the first representative under the new constitution). He was also Justice of the Peace and Quorum in NH.
He married Mary Seavey of Rye, NH, on Jan 31, 1768.
He studied medicine under Dr. Dearborn of North Hampton, NH, in 1770.
He was appointed with two others to stand by the Sons of Liberty to enlist minute men. During the war, while dangerously sick with his company in Rhode Island, his company received orders to march. He was too ill to move and presumed to be soon dead. One of his support staff (Richard Webster) was instructed to stay behind and see to Joseph's death and proper burial. However Captain Parsons soon recovered and rejoined his company.
"There was persistence and patience and long-sustained endurance in the make-up of this man of action".
Subsequent to the war he served as Physician in the town of Rye, NH.
