Biography

Edmond Valsin Patin, son of Joseph Patin and Julienne Robichaud, was born on 29 October 1809 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. He was baptized on 24 April 1810 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. His godparents were Julien Robichaux and Aimee Patin. Father Louis Buhot performed the ceremony.[1]

He married Azema Bijeau, daughter of Ursin Bijeau and Magdeleine Richard, on 4 May 1835 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish.[2][3]

Edmond and Azema had 11 known children:

The family was enumerated on the 1850 census, living on a farm in St. Martin Parish. Valsin was a planter with real estate valued at about $650.[4]

Valsin was widowed by 1860. He and his children were enumerated without his wife present during the 1860 and 1870 censuses.[5][6]
