Biography

Antoine Patin appears on the lists of the Militia of Opelousas in 1777, and the Militia of Attakapas in 1792, the latter identifying him as a Creole, age thirty. He is listed as head of a non-Acadian family in Attakapas between 1795 and 1823 by Father Michel Bernard Barriere while he was serving in the Attakapas region.

In 1812, Antoine Patin was residing on the east side of Bayou Teche.

"63. Patin, Antoine, OB, B-1990, 619.31 ac. (PM) ASP, II, 858. "1812, May 26. Certificate issued to Patin, Antoine. Claim founded on settlement and occupancy by Declouet, Louise, and Declouet, Caroline. On Teche. 480 sup. arpts. "SDC, 39-A. 1811, Jan. 9. Survey of section completed by Dinsmore, John. Found to contain 738 sup. ac. or 872 sup. arpts. "SDC, 39-C. 1812, May 26. Certificate of Confirmation. This indicates that Patin purchased tract from Declouet, Louise and Declouet, Caroline on Oct. 1, 1791." [Conrad, Glenn R., Land Records I, p. 59.]
