Biography

Josias Payne was born 30 October 1705, presumably in Virginia.^[1][2] He was the son of George Payne and Mary Woodson.^[1][3]

Josias Payne married Anne or Anna Fleming.^{[citation needed]}

In September 1732, Josias Payne and his wife Anne sold land in Goochland County, Virginia. ^[3][4]

He was a member of the Virginia House of Burgess from Goochland County, Virginia, in 1761 and 1765.^[5]

He died on 18 January 1785 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia,^[2] and was buried in an unmarked grave at Payne Cemetery in Goochland, Goochland County, Virginia^[5]

His granddaughter was Dolly Payne Madison, First Lady of USA.
