Biography

William Payne was the son of Thomas Payne of Boxted. Thomas died in 1545. At the time of his death he was married to Alice. It is unknown if this was the mother of William and his siblings, Richard, John, Alice and Robert, all named in their father Thomas' will.

Richard, who inherited the lease on the land and possibly the oldest lived in Boxted, he was a Clothier. He had sons John, Richard and Thomas. In his will of 1576 he left money to his brother William's children.

Very little is known about William. He had three children who all lived in Lavenham, Suffolk: William II, Thomas and Agnes. William's wife and mother of the children is unknown.

In 1561 William's brother Thomas was recorded in the parish records of Lavenham. His sister Agnes married there in 1565. It would seem that these three siblings migrated the sort distance from Boxted to Lavenham. [1]

removed date of death, also changed wife as she was also wrong.
Is it true that William Payne and his son William Payne both died on the same day?? I suspect that the death (burial) date is wrong for one of them.
