Biography

Jotham was born in 1780. [1] [2] Jotham was the child of Samuel Pike and Anna Grant.

In 1795, Jotham and his brother, William, came to Stratton Gore, Vermont, with their mother, Anna. They settled into a log cabin owned by their half-brother, Joshua Grout. The next year they were joined by their father, Samuel Pike. By 1800, Jotham had built his own house and was living independently. He married Hannah Goodell, Dec 3, 1801, at Stratton, Vermont, [3] with whom he had ten children:

2) Emily 1 Dec 1803;
3) Eunice 23 Jul 1806;
4) Moses 18 May 1808;
5) Alexander Hamilton 12 Feb 1810;
6) Louisa 7 Apr 1812;
7) Anna 27 Jul 1814;
8) Samuel 22 Jun 1816;
9) Jotham Jr 30 Apr 1821;
10) Hannah Maria 3 Mar 1823.

He successfully expanded his farm and was elected to several positions in Stratton Town government. His wife, Hannah, passed away in 1836.

On 13 Mar 1837, Jotham married Anna H (Rand) Smith, at Somerset, Vermont. [4] Shortly after marrying Anna, Jotham sold the farm. He and Anna settled briefly in Manchester, Vermont and then lived a few years in Grafton, Vermont, before returning to the Stratton/Somerset community, where they remained the rest of their lives. [5] Jotham and Anna H Rand Smith Pike (at least) one son and three daughters:

11) Abbi 1837 (died after 14 days),
12) Ahaz P 1843,
13) Oatman c 1844 (died aged 13), and
14) Ruth Anganette 20 Apr 1848 (died aged 15 from diptheria)

In the United States Census, 1850, Jotham was living at Grafton, Windham, Vermont, with his (2nd wife) Anna, and their children: [6]

Jotham passed away in 1858, at Stratton, Vermont. [7] He was buried in Pike Hollow Cemetery. [8]

Anna died thirty years after Jotham. Her headstone in Somerset Cemetery indicates she had re-married to "W Henry Mason". Her headstone is shared with her daughters, Ruth A Pike and Oatman Pike. [9] Another daughter, Lucy Smith Lowe, from Anna's first marriage is also in the same cemetery.
