Private William Potter served with 2nd York County Regiment, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

William Potter is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A091818.

William Potter, the son of James Potter and Margaret Dunlap, was born August 17, 1751 in Topsham, Maine. On November 15, 1778 he married Lucy Allen. He came to Litchfield in 1782 and located at Pottertown. He build the first sawmill in town in 1789. He died August 9, 1829. William and Lucy had 10 children: John, William, Jeremiah, Dorcas, Hugh, Lucy, Isaac, Allen, Amos, and Sarah.[1]

William Potter was a soldier in the War for Independence. He enlisted on 30 Jan 1776 and was discharged on 26 Dec 1780. He was in Capt. Bartholomew York's Co., Col. Edmund Phinney's Regt. Also - Capt. Solomon Walker's Co., Col. Joseph Prime's Regt. Service with the Continental Army at Boston and the Eastward. [2]
