CAPT. Samuel Powell served with 2nd New York Regiment, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Samuel Powell served in the New York Line, 2nd Regiment, a Continental Line Infantry Combat Unit that saw action all over New York State and the other original Colonies during the Revolutionary War.

According to DAR paperwork in the hands of the PM, this is the person who allows for membership, since he is born prior to the Rev. War.

When Samuel Hallock Powell was born on 10 November 1723, in Bethpage, Oyster Bay, Nassau, New York, United States, his father, Thomas Powell, was 30 and his mother, Abigail Hallock, was 18. He married Mary Wood on 23 March 1748, in Bedelltown, Oyster Bay Town, Queens, New York Colony, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 8 daughters. He registered for military service in 1775. United States Rosters of Revolutionary War Soldiers and Sailors in First Company Of Philadelphia Militia Artillery. He served in Colonel Jehn Eyre's Battalion and Captain John McGinley's Company as a Second Lieutenant and gunner. He died in 1792, at the age of 69.[citation needed] NOTE: This date disagrees with what DAR shows.
