Hoping to collaborate about the research notes that now reads, "The listed parents are brother and sister-in-law. Moses and John are children of John and Elizabeth unknown."
In 1923, Charles Henry Preston reports that John^3 Preston (Thomas^2, Roger^1), born 20 November 1673, died 6 July 1744 married (1) in 1714, Elizabeth Voden, daughter of Moses and Mary (Ormes) Voden; married (2) Mrs. Mary Rea, "probably the widow of John Rea ..."
Charles Henry Preston reported three children born to John and Elizabeth (Voden) Preston between 1715 and 1719, as Moses, John and Philip.
For the John Preston-Elizabeth Voden marriage, Charles Henry Preston (p. 25) quotes extensively from Essex County notarial records concerning "Moses Vouden." Those records--depositions by three Salem men (by "Jona Ager Shipwright age 77"; "Dan. Bacon do. aged 75"; and "John Masters mariner 62")--report about Moses Vouden's widow and their two children, saying that the daughter Elizabeth married John Preston.
In recounting the notarial record, Charles Preston wrote, "Said widow and daughters being alive and well on Oct. 29, 1716"--suggesting the notarial record dated about then.
Has anyone found that notarial record? FS reports the Massachusetts Archives has Essex County notarial records from 1723-1769--but the record we seek seems earlier. Clearly, Charles Henry Preston writing indicates he had reviewed the relevant record.
