Neis was the son of Gilbert Ramsay, apparent of Bamff, Perthshire and his wife Margaret Ogilvy, who married in 1482.
In 1504 he was retoured heir to his grandfather Alexander Ramsay of Bamff in the lands of Eastertown of Woodwrae and the third part of Drumflogne as his father had died during his father's lifetime. [1] He was still a minor at this time but on reaching full age an Inquisition of Retour held at Perth on 5 Oct 1507 found that he was nearest lawful heir to his grandfather Alexander Ramsay in the Barony of Bamff.[2] On 13 Nob 1507 Neis took sasine of the Barony of Bamff in terms of a Precept of Chancery.[3]
Neis married about 1505 to Janet Auchinleck and they had a son:
On 28 Jul 1513, Neis was called to serve on the jury of the trial of Malcolm Drummond accused of the murder of Gilfillan Crichton. [4]
Neis died about 1530. He was described as deceased on 30 Jul 1530 when his son Alexander and his spouse Elizabeth Crichton were granted a Crown Charter of the lands of Mawes.[5]
Janet Auchenleck survived him. [6]
