Biography

Matoaka Amonute Powhatan
David Randolph is a descendant of Pocahontas. Here is the trail.

Likely the captain of a Virginia regiment in 1777.[1][2]

He is mentioned in the will of his father Richard Randolph jr.[citation needed]

He married Mary Randolph 11 Dec 1780; his first cousin once removed. [3] [4]

He might have been the David Meade Randolph at Bermuda Hundred who in 1783 advertised the sale of "eight or ten Negroes in families."[5]

He might have been the David Meade Randolph at Bermuda Hundred who advertised in 1786 the sale of "thirteen Negro slaves" at Cumberland court house.[6]

Also in 1786, one David Meade Randolph at Curles advertised "for all persons to whom the late Col. Richard Randolph was indebted to make their demands known."[7]

In December 1787, David M. Randolph at Bermuda Hundred, Chesterfield County, advertised to sell two tracks of land in Cumberland county.[8]

He may have been the D.M. Randolph at Presque Isle who in 1788 advertised for sale two tracks of tobacco land, part of Clover Forest, in the upper end of Cumberland County, "fifteen Virginia born slaves, a light imported post-chaise, and a bay colt."[9]

In 1789, it appears he was involved, with several others, in a lawsuit concerning the estate of Richard Randolph.[10]

He is buried in Bruton Parish Episcopal Church Cemetery, Williamsburg, Williamsburg City, Virginia.[11]

We are seeking sources for the identity of his children. In addition to the children linked to this profile, the following are also possibilities:

  • Ruth Randolph, m 26 Jul 1800 in Harrison (West) Virginia, William Strother.[12]
