Biography

Henry Rich was the eldest son of Robert Rich, 2nd Earl Holland and later 5th Earl of Warwick, and his first wife Elizabeth Ingram. [1] He was christened Aug 26 1642 in Kensington, London, England. [2]

He was given the title Lord of Kensington at his baptism on 24 October 1642:

Oct 24 Henry Rich, Lord of Kensington, son of the Right Ho'ble Robert Rich, Earle of Holland, and the Lady Elisabeth, his wife, were borne August 26th 1642 [3]

He married Christian (Riccard) Gayer, the young widow of John Gayer on 14 Feb 1658/9 at St Mary Abbott's church, Kensington:

Feb 14 The Right Ho'rbl Henry Rich, Baron ["Viscount" erased] Kensington, and Mrs Christian Geare, widow; By Mr Peascros [Note in later hand: "or Mr Thascrosse"] [1] [4] He was seventeen years old and she was nineteen.

Henry died less than 2 month later on 15 April 1659 [unsourced]. He was buried at St Mary Abbott's church, Kensington on 22 April:

April 22 The Right Ho'ble Henry Rich, Lord Vicunt [sic] Kensington, from his house in Kensington. [5] [6][7]

There were no children from this marriage.

His widow Christian married John Berkeley, a powerful and wealthy man in the court of King Charles II, in 1661. They had at least five children. John and Christian attempted to secure the hand in marriage of the heiress Essex Rich, a second cousin of Henry, for their eldest son Charles. [8]
