Biography
When William Johnston Richey was born on November 6, 1830[1], in Donalds, South Carolina, his father, James, was 38 and his mother, Julianne, was 33. He had one son and one daughter with Annie Elgin between 1852 and 1854. He died as a young father on August 21, 1855, in his hometown.
The story goes that William and his family were attending a wedding where the guest elected to spend the night. William was awaken by a dream in which someone was stealing his wheat from the bins in his barn and he wanted to go home. He was persuaded that it was just a dream and that he should go back to sleep. He awoke the second time as a result of the same dream and this time he went home to check it out. This was the last time he was seen alive as his body was discovered the next day at his farm and the wheat he was so concerned about was gone.
