RESEARCH NOTE

A Confusion Resolved

Two girls named Abigail Rockwell, first cousins, were contemporaries in Ridgefield: the subject of this profile, Abigail daughter of Jonathan and Esther, b. 3 Feb 1734/5, and Abigail daughter of David and Elizabeth, b. 4 Jan 1740/1. The wills of their fathers make clear that it was Jonathan's daughter who married Joseph Doolittle in Ridgefield on 10 Aug 1757, while David's daughter married Josiah Hall, perhaps in some other town, before the birth of their first child recorded in Ridgefield on 21 Aug 1774.[7][8]

Therefore, the Abigail Rockwell profiled here has been connected to her spouse Joseph Doolittle and the Doolittle children, and to her Doolittle children. Full details about this conflict and resolution can be viewed on the other Abigail Rockwell's profile.
