Isaac Roosevelt MD was Born in New York.

Isaac, the son of Jacobus 'James' Roosevelt and Maria Eliza Walton was born on 21 April 1790 in Hyde Park, New York City and baptized on 18 May 1790 in the Dutch Reformed Church in New York.^[2]

Isaac married Mary Rebecca Aspinwall, the daughter of John and Susan (Howland) Aspinwall in 1827 in New York. Isaac and Mary had two sons, born in New York:

1. James Roosevelt (b. 16 Jul 1828; d. 8 Dec 1900, Hyde Park, NY),^[3] m. 1) in 1853, Rebecca Brien Howland (1831-1876), m. 2) in 1880, Sarah Ann Delano (1854-1941)
2. John Aspinwall Roosevelt (b. 27 Jul 1840; d. ll Mar 1909, Hyde Park, NY), m. Ellen Murray Crosby (1837-1928)

Isaac graduated from Princeton University in 1808. He received the degree of MD from College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1812. He continued his medical studies with Dr David Hosack until 1820; however Isaac never actually practiced having the inability to "bear the sight of human suffering." His passion was farming and when his father purchased Mount Hope in Hyde Park, Isaac left New York City to live there permanently.^[4]In 1832, Isaac built Rosedale, close to his father's home where he enjoyed country life with his wife and sons. He is the paternal grandfather of U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Rosedale, Isaac Roosevelt Family Home

His home, the center of his Rosedale estate, still stands on Riverview Circle in Hyde Park. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, along with a cottage and boathouse on the nearby Hudson River.^[5]

Isaac Daniel Roosevelt, MD, died on 23 October 1863 at 73 years of age in Hyde Park, Otsego, New York.^[6]He is buried in the Saint James Episcopal Churchyard in Hyde Park, Duchess, New York.^[7]
