Biography

Confirmed to Rievaulx the gift of his uncle Walter Espec in 1147-53, for the souls of his father and his brother, Everard. He was sometimes constable, probably to the Count of Aumale, lord of Holderness. He attested a charter of Count William about 1150, as well as Henry II's charter to Scarborough, where for several years, he was in charge of works at the King's castle.

In 1157, he paid 1,000 marks of silver to the king for livery of the lands inherited by his mother from her brother, Walter Espec. He was a munificent benefactor to the Knights Templar. [Sir Bernard Burke, Dormant, Abeyant, Forfeited and Extinct Peerages, Burke's Peerage, London, 1883, p. 458, Ros, or Roos, Barons Ros]

Sometimes constable, probably to the Count of Aumale, Lord of Holderness. In 1158, and for several years thereafter, he was in charge of King Henry II's works at the castle of Scarborough.

I eliminated three of the children that had no proof/sources. Not sure what to do about Gilbert. Did he exist? If so, do we have any idea of his ancestry?
According to Keats-Rohan, his heir Everard was a minor when he died, and so any other children must be younger. So I find it hard to believe that he had so many children! Three of the ones we are showing are mentioning Pembroke, and show no signs of sourcing etc.
