Biography

Samuel Rowley , son of Samuel Rowley, was b. 17 Aug 1718. Samuel the father married Elisabeth Fuller in 1713.[1]

Samuel Rowley Jr. and Miriam Shila, were married 11 Oct 1744 in Hebron, Connecticut[1]

Samuel was born in 1718, the son of Deacon Samuel Rowley and Elisabeth Fuller. He married Miriam Shailer in 1744 and they had seven children:

  1. Jeremiah
  2. Miriam
  3. Thankful
  4. Samuel
  5. Elizabeth
  6. Ezra
  7. Abijah

On 5 April 1774 Samuel's brother Abijah Rowley was appointed guardian of Samuel's son Abijah who was just 16 years old. Samuel was deceased at this time. There were no Conecticutt or Berkshire County, Massachusetts probates for Samuel Rowley.

Research Notes

While the court took the trouble to plan for Samuel's 16-year-old son Abijah's future by assigning guardianship to his son's Uncle Abijah, equal care was not taken for the future of his younger son Roswell. Why? What happened to him? Did he leave him in his mother's care? That was not usual for the time. Looking back over the records, there is no source found for a marriage between Samuel and Elizabeth. We also don't have proof that Roswell is his son. So now we have a puzzle: Who is the father or mother of Roswell Rowley?

  • Note that the Mayflower Society does not accept Roswell Rowley b. 25 May 1761 as a child of this family.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:

I'm trying to clean up unsourced Rowleys and Rowley-2921 appeared. It shouldn't be here because Samuel and Miriam (Shailer) only had eight children, not nine, according to the Silver Book (MF) Vol 4:170. Also Miriam's name is spelled SHAILER or SHILA not SHALER according to Mayflower. I am going to empty his profile and propose a merge to get rid of it.

Does this profile really need to be ppp. Does it fit current guidelines?

Rowley-1659 and Rowley-546 appear to represent the same person because: Could these be the same person.
