say he was born on 24 July 1751 but they are not contemporaneous sources.
Bezaleel apparently moved from Windham Township, CT to Dutchess County, NY with his parents and most of his siblings sometime between 1762 and 1766.
In the summer of 1775, Bezaleel and his father signed the Amenia, NY Pledge of Association declaring their solidarity with the revolutionary cause.

Shortly thereafter, he enlisted with the NY militia and fought alongside the Green Mountain Boys in the early battles of the War. As a First Lieutenant, he commanded “Lt Bezaleel’s Detachment”, which was charged with “Assisting Capt Roberson in Escorting A numter [sic] of Prisoners from the fishkill [in NY] to the State of New Hampshear [sic] Commencing on the Seventh Day of November and Ending the Sixtenth [sic] of November AD 1776”.

The inscription on his wife's grave marker suggests that he retired with the rank of Major.
