An undocumented article in "Following the BRASWELLs in America 1600-1983," by Dr. R.B. BRASWELL identifies RICHARD's wife as SARAH SAMPSON and gives their wedding date as 16 Jan 1673. [2] No source was given and "Southside Virginia Families," by JOHN BENNETT BODDIE doesn't identify her surname. If she was a SAMPSON, she might have been a daughter of JAMES SAMPSON and ELIZABETH BARCROFT of Isle of Wight Co., VA. He is the only man named SAMPSON in that area who was the correct age to be her father. ELIZABETH immigrated in 1647 with CHARLES BARCROFT who may have been her brother. Other SAMPSONs in the Isle of Wight Co., VA, area were ELIZABETH, who married THOMAS CLARK and ANN, who married EDWARD MOSELEY. EDWARD MOSELEY was very wealthy. He died in New Hanover Co., NC, and owned land in Edgecombe CO., NC.

US International Marriage records index is NOT a reliable source and should NOT be used to justify changing her last name at birth to Sampson.

It may upset some, but like my last post says. never give up

If there is no record then I will change the name to Unknown now. Thank you, Eric!

As a professional genealogist and one that loves the genealogy of the Southern States of America, I can find no record or source that would lead me to conclude this profile was a "Sampson" other than she mentions a grandson named Sampson and Dr. Roy Bennett Braswell book which you can see Here.

It takes a long time to find the truth. When I was 6 I remember an old man who used to talk to me when Dad wasn't around. His name was Lawrence Duffy who used to tell me about when he was in WW1. 40 years later after always asking my Dad who he was, its was my Dads father. I have the surname Daly but my grandfather was Lawrence Duffy. Nothing is what it seems till you actually find the truth.

The will for Sarah is not in book IV page 64/65. Its in book II on page 65. I know as I can see it and I will add any image that can be viewed for free to the inline refs.

The Authors of the various books on Wills, Inventries and Deeds use the same assets that I have. You have to buy their books if you can find one to buy. I will show you where we get them so you can get them free.

The will is posted and all of the children are listed in the will. I will change the name to Unknown tomorrow if no one comes up with a source. Thanks for all of your help!!!

While we are working on this, do the kids appear to be correct? I am not familiar with this line.

I've asked my researcher to take a last look for any documents that may have a LNAB. He is a whiz.

posted by Paula J
I suggest that we change the LNAB to Unknown due to lack of a record or reliable source that indicates otherwise.
