Sir James Sandilands 5th Laird of Calder was born at Calder, Scotland.^[1]

Sir James Sandilands was the son of John Sandilands lVth of Calder and Cristian Dundas. Sir James and Margaret de Kinloch obtained a marriage license on 25 July 1463; Date of dispensation for being related in the 4th degree. At this date, they already had children.^[2]

1. Christian (Jamesdaughter) Sandilands . married Andrew (Robertson) Anstruther of Anstruther

2. John (Jamesson) Sandilands 6th of Calder (died before 13 Feb. 1493/94).

Sir James Sandilands married secondly Margaret Kerr, daughter of Andrew Kerr (Ker?) of Auldtounburn (Altonburn?) and Cessford and Margaret Tweedie. Margaret Kerr married ca-17.Mai. 1509 secondly William Hay - 4th Earl of Erroll.
