Land and Court Records

----> Please do not delete metes and bounds until the lands can be compared to generations before and after Julius, in order to determine family relationships on this elusive family

Julius Saunders received a land grant dated 31 Jul 1758 for 335 acres on the south branches of the Rivanna River in Albemarle Co:[3]

Beginning at pointers in William Burton's line, running thence:
N 68 E 234 Poles to pointers in Edward Pye Chamberlayne's line and on that line
N 28 E 22 crossing a Branch to a Pine
N 3 E 256 poles crossing two Branches to Pointers
S 65 W 156 poles to a pine corner of John Anthony and on Anthony's line
S 30 E 49 to Pointers
S 64 W 20 to a red oak sapling
S 22 W 25 to a pine thence on William Sanders's lines
S 25 E 103 crossing a creek to a pine
S 28 W 20 to Pointers and on a new line
S 40 E 157 to pointers in William Burton's line and on Burton's line
N 68 E 234 to the beginning

On 10 Jul 1759, at Albemarle Co VA, Julius Saunders (with wife Jemima releasing dower) sold 250 acres of land in Albemarle Co, for 40 pounds, to William Amoss, for 40 pounds, 250 acres of land with the following metes and bounds:[4]

Beginning at pointers in Wm Burton's line and running on that line
N 86 poles to pointers on Burtons line, then on John Morgoon's line
S18 E 106 poles to pointers in Edward Lye Chamberlayne's line, then on his line
S 72 W 55 to a pine
N 3 E 256 crossing two branches to pointers
S 65 W 156 to a pin a corner of John Anthony's in sd line and on that line
S 30 E 49 to pointers
N 64 W 20 to a red oak sapling
S 22 W 25 to a pine, then on Wm Sanders's line
S 25 E 103 crossing a creek to a pine
S 28 W 20 to pointers & on a new line
S 40 E 150 to the beginning

Even though the 1759 sale from Julius to William Amos seems to have Julius selling a majority of the property to Amos, somehow the 335 acres of land appears to have fallen to George Saunders, because on 9 Jun 1774, at Albemarle Co VA, George enters into a trust deed with Edward Smith in order to secure a loan of 30 pounds that he needs to pay to the estate of Leonard George, decd. The deed mentions that the land borders that of William Saunders decd and William Burton.[5]

Alan's documentation is spot on. I know for SAR, documentation of any form of patriotic service, specifically, “Civil Service under the Colonies from April 9, 1775 to November 26, 1783, inclusive." can be used to prove an ancestor's patriotism. The documents showing that he provided pasturage to the army and paid the supply tax in 1783 - alone, would suffice as evidence. commented Aug 3, 2013 by Ray Jones G2G6 Pilot +1 vote Julius died in 1764. The American Revolution didn't start until 1776. answered Aug 3, 2013 by Living Evans G2G6 Mach 3 (36.7k points)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Julius by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Julius:

Yes Carole I figured that out. I'll post the photos on Julius Jr. next gen down. He's the Julius who built the "Big House" and is presumed buried in the small family cemetery surrounded by stone.

He's #9 in your list of children. Sherrie
