George Seton, 1st Lord Seton was the son of Sir William Seton of Seton and Janet Dunba.r[1][2]
The date of George's birth can be tied down to the second half of 1416. It is recorded that in 1437 his lands were held in ward by Chancellor Crichton, i.e. that he was still in minority. He must have attained his majority shortly before 2nd November 1437 when he was able to grant a charter for a toft of land in Tranent.
He married, firstly, Lady Margaret Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Buchan and Lady Elizabeth Douglas, before 8 January 1436/37.[3][2] He married, secondly, Christian Murray, daughter of Sir William Murray of Tullibardine, before 8 January 1460/61.[3]
He died circa 15 July 1478.[3] [2]
He was invested as a Knight in 1439.[2] In 1448 he went to France as an envoy.[2] He was created 1st Lord Seton circa 22 March 1450/51.[2] He was invested as a Privy Counsellor [Scotland] in 1458.[2] In 1472 he went to England as an envoy.[2] , [4]
He may have had four children. Margaret Seton[3] by an unnamed mother, Christian Seton by his second wife Christian Murray[2], John[3] and Douglass Seton[3] by his first wife Lady Margaret Stewart.[5]
