Biography

Algernon Seymour was born on 11 November 1684, the son of Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset and Lady Elizabeth Percy.

He married after 01 March 1714/15 to Frances Thynne (daughter of Hon. Henry Thynne and Grace Strode) and their children included:

  2. George Seymour, Viscount Beauchamp, b: 11 Sep 1725; d: 11 Sep 1744.

On 23 November 1722 he was created 1st Lord Percy [Great Britain by writ], in the mistaken belief that the title of 1299 had been inherited by his mother.

In 1748 he succeeded to the title of 7th Duke of Somerset.

On 2 October 1749 (with special remainder to his son-in-law, Sir Hugh Smithson, 4th Bt.) he was created ...

- 1st Earl of Northumberland [Great Britain]
- 1st Baron Warkworth of Warkworth Castle in the County of Northumberland [Great Britain].

On 3 October 1749 (with a special remainder to his nephews, Sir Charles Wyndham, 4th Bt. and Percy Wyndham) he was created ...

- 1st Earl of Egremont [Great Britain]
- 1st Baron Cockermouth in the County of Cumberland [Great Britain]. [1] [2]

He died aged 65 on 7 February 1749/50 without surviving male issue.
