Algernon Seymour was born on 11 November 1684, the son of Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset and Lady Elizabeth Percy.
He married after 01 March 1714/15 to Frances Thynne (daughter of Hon. Henry Thynne and Grace Strode) and their children included:
On 23 November 1722 he was created 1st Lord Percy [Great Britain by writ], in the mistaken belief that the title of 1299 had been inherited by his mother.
In 1748 he succeeded to the title of 7th Duke of Somerset.
