William Hardy Sharp was born on 2 Oct 1819 in Abbeville, South Carolina, United States, son of William Hardy Sharp (~1787 - 1844) and Anne (Richey) Sharp (1793 - 1869).

1900 census gives Oct 1819 as birth date, Long Cane Township, Abbeville, South Carolina, Elizabeth 61, 3 adult children: Sarah, George, Thomas and 4 grandchildren all <5 yrs old.
Gravestone has Oct 2 1819 as birth date.Son ,John Robert Sharp, death certificate give full names of his parents, William Hardy Sharp and Catherine Elizabeth McKee.
Other researchers indicate William H Sharp's first wife was Frances Arnold and they had one child (Fanny born 1848) before her death probably 1848-1849. His second marriage was to Elizabeth McKee. He served in Confederate Army.
William Hardy Sharp, 10/2/1819 - 6/8/1902 CSA. In the 1850 Federal Census he was living with his mother and 30 years old. His first wife had died and his daughter, Fanny ,was living with Ann Sharp's family. William Hardy is buried in Greenville Presbyterian Church Graveyard in Abbeville Co., SC.

Available in Greenville Public Library, Greenville, SC., page 14, "William Hardy Sharp lived on land granted to his grandfather Edward Sharp. He was a licensed distiller of peach brandy and gifted carpenter and gunsmith. Neighbors would bring him peaches to be distilled & stored by William Hardy Sharp until government inspection and taxes were paid. As a gunsmith he converted guns from flintlock to cap and ball and re-rifled many guns with tools he made himself. The homes he built were mortise and tended held together with wooden pegs."
